Mercaptan Tank Monitoring

Mercaptan, also known as methanethiol, is a foul-smelling chemical added to natural gas to give it a distinctive “rotten egg” smell. Mercaptan is a non-toxic, organic chemical made of carbon, hydrogen, and sulfur. It acts as an odorant to make natural gas easier to detect and ensures that leaks are not go undetected. In this case, while there was a level device installed, knowing it would eventually fail and need to be replaced, the customer was interested in avoiding the lengthy, costly, and potentially dangerous replacement of that device when the time came. A non-contact, non-invasive RotoLevel meter was installed within minutes and programmed quickly, to give highly accurate level data in multiple formats to the end user. If the end user so desired, a RotoHub could be used to monitor this tank remotely from any location in the world.
